Polish Light Horse of the Guard

Lancer squadron

1807-1815

Created after the Polish campaign, the Polish Light Horse of the Guard was one of the most prestigious cavalry units. Equipped with lances, they charged at Wagram, Borodino and Waterloo.

The regiment was formed in 1807 from Polish volunteers. It took part in the charge of Somosierra on November 30, 1808, where 125 lancers broke through the Spanish batteries. It was the only Guard unit not originally French.
