How it is written
Each page is written from cross-checked sources. When historians disagree — on numbers, losses or a date — we give the range rather than a made-up figure.
Pages are linked together: the name of a person, a battle or a place leads to its own page.
The images are mostly paintings and engravings of the period, now in the public domain. The artist and the museum are named under each image.
Languages
The website is published in five languages: French, English, German, Spanish and Italian.
Who runs it
Empire Napoléon is an independent project run by an individual. It is not linked to any institution, museum or publisher.
Free to read
The website is free and needs no account. It is funded by advertising and by links to books: if you buy a book after clicking one of these links, the website earns a small commission, at no extra cost to you.
