Consulate (1799-1804)

Organised by Chaptal in the courtyard of the Louvre, the second exhibition of French industrial products brought together two hundred and twenty exhibitors and rewarded mechanics, weavers and chemists. The Consulate used it as an instrument of economic propaganda as much as technical encouragement. It was the direct ancestor of the world's fairs of the following century.
