Creation of the lycées

Consulate (1799-1804)

The law of 11 Floréal Year X organised secondary education around state lycées, boarding schools with military discipline teaching letters, mathematics and drawing. Six thousand four hundred scholarships trained an elite of state servants. The model, completed by the Imperial University in 1808, shaped French education into the twentieth century.
