Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica. The Bonaparte family home is now a national museum.

Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica, saw Napoleon born in the family home on Rue Malerba. The Bonaparte family was of minor Corsican nobility. Napoleon left the island at nine for Autun college, then Brienne.
